Scoring Conviviality
A dinner at Cubitt initiated by Aliaskar Abarkas as a further extension of the collaborative modality of Abarkas‘ All the Whistlers. The meal worked with alternative registers of communication and an expansive definition of language through resonances of sound, texture, and flavor. Classical hierarchies of senses and meaning dissolve and reorder as diners were encouraged to consider various registers of conviviality and sound in the edible encounter. Cracking of shells, snapping of skins, grinding of seeds, rattling of grains, splashing of sauce, fizzing of ferments, slapping of dough, stripping of leaves, tearing of peels. Diners excavated vegetables roasted in salt to be assembled with a range of fermented condiments, fresh dairy, carta di musica (sheet music) flatbreads, and cultivated and wild greens and nuts.
